Clinical Facials - Before & After care

To achieve the best possible outcome from a medical facial, it is essential to prepare your skin before and after the treatment.

Prior to your appointment, it is recommended you refrain from using any active or abrasive skincare products that may cause irritation to your skin.

Example: AHA (Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Lactic Acid), BHA (Salicylic Acid), Retinol, physical exfoliants.

Following your facial, it is important to adhere to the instructions provided by your Aesthetician for post-care to ensure that you maintain the benefits of your treatment and keep your skin looking healthy and radiant. If you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out and contact At Skin.

Chemical Peel - Before & After care

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back is smoother.
Very superficial and superficial chemical peels remove the outer layer of skin (epidermis). It's used to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and dryness.

What to expect?

During the application of the peel you may feel tingling or a burning sensation. The feeling is very tolerable dependent upon your level of peel. If it does get uncomfortable there is a handheld fan that may reduce the sensations.
Depending on the type of peel you receive, whether a timed peel or a layered peel, both remain on the skin for anywhere between 3-15 minutes.

Hydrafacial - Before & After care

Before Your HydraFacial Treatment

To ensure you get the best possible results from your HydraFacial treatment, it’s important to follow these pre-treatment guidelines. Proper preparation will help your skin respond well to the treatment and prevent potential irritation or complications.

1. Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning
- In the week leading up to your HydraFacial, avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and any activities that may cause sunburn. A sunburned face may be too sensitive to treat, and you may need to reschedule your appointment.
2. Discontinue Certain Skincare Products
- *Stop using Retinols, Retinoids, and Vitamin A** creams at least 48 hours before your treatment. These products can make your skin more sensitive and may cause irritation during the HydraFacial.
- *Avoid exfoliating treatments and acids** (like glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acids) for at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. This includes any scrubs or chemical exfoliants that could cause excessive peeling or irritation.

3. Skip Waxing, Laser Treatments, and Hair Removal
- Avoid waxing, laser treatments, or any form of hair removal on your face at least 48 hours before your HydraFacial. These procedures can cause irritation or sensitivity that may interfere with the treatment.

4. Avoid Injectables and Fillers
- If you’ve had Botox, fillers, or any other injectable treatments, wait at least **2 weeks** before scheduling a HydraFacial. This ensures your skin has fully healed from these procedures and can handle the facial.

5. Stay Hydrated
- Hydrated skin responds better to treatment. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your HydraFacial to ensure your skin is well-hydrated, which can help maximize results.

6. Come with a Clean Face
- On the day of your treatment, avoid wearing heavy makeup or any lotions. It’s best to arrive with clean skin so that the HydraFacial can effectively cleanse and treat your skin without interference from other products.

After Your HydraFacial Treatment

Following your HydraFacial, your skin will feel deeply cleansed, hydrated, and refreshed. To maintain the best results and support skin recovery, it’s essential to follow these post-treatment guidelines. While the HydraFacial is gentle and non-invasive, your skin may be more sensitive afterward.

1. Avoid Sun Exposure and Wear Sunscreen
- Your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays after the HydraFacial, so it’s important to avoid direct sun exposure for at least 48-72 hours.
- Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from sun damage. Reapply sunscreen throughout the day if you’re outdoors.

2. Skip Harsh Skincare Products
- Avoid using exfoliants, scrubs, retinoids, or any products containing strong acids (like glycolic or salicylic acid) for at least 48 hours post-treatment. These products can be too harsh for freshly treated skin and may cause irritation.
- Stick to a gentle, hydrating skincare routine for the first 1-2 days after your HydraFacial to allow your skin to fully benefit from the treatment.

3. Avoid Heat and Sweating
- For the first 24 hours after your HydraFacial, avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise that causes sweating. Heat and sweat can irritate your skin or cause breakouts while it’s recovering.

4. Keep Your Skin Hydrated
- Your skin has just been deeply hydrated, but it’s important to maintain that hydration. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturizer regularly to lock in the hydration from the treatment and keep your skin looking plump and healthy.
5. Avoid Makeup for 24 Hours
- Give your skin a chance to breathe and fully absorb the benefits of the HydraFacial by skipping makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment. If you must wear makeup, opt for non-comedogenic, lightweight products to avoid clogging your pores.

6. Avoid Waxing and Hair Removal
- Do not perform any waxing, laser treatments, or hair removal on the treated area for at least 48 hours after your HydraFacial. These procedures can cause irritation to your freshly treated skin.

7. Stay Away from Active Ingredients
- For the first 48 hours after your treatment, avoid active ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, and Vitamin C serums. Your skin may be more sensitive, and these products can cause irritation

Microchanneling - Before & After care

Before Your Microchanneling Treatment

To get the most out of your Microchanneling treatment and ensure a safe and effective experience, it’s essential to properly prepare your skin. Follow these guidelines before your treatment:

1. Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning
- Limit direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products at least **1-2 weeks** before your appointment. Sunburned or tanned skin is more sensitive and may react negatively to Microchanneling.

2. Discontinue Use of Certain Skincare Products
- **Stop using retinoids, retinols, and Vitamin A** creams at least **5-7 days** before treatment. These products can make your skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation or side effects.
- **Avoid using exfoliants or acids** (glycolic, salicylic, lactic) for at least **3 days** prior to treatment. These can make your skin more sensitive to the microchanneling procedure.

3. Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications or Supplements
- If possible, avoid taking blood-thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil at least **3 days** before the treatment, as these may increase the risk of bruising. If you are on any prescribed medications, consult your doctor before discontinuing their use.

4. Stay Hydrated
- Hydrated skin responds better to microchanneling. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment to ensure your skin is well-hydrated and ready for the procedure.

5. Avoid Alcohol
- Avoid alcohol for at least **24 hours** before your appointment. Alcohol can thin your blood and increase the likelihood of bruising or swelling during the treatment.

6. Arrive with Clean Skin
- On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Avoid applying any lotions, serums, or creams, as this will allow the Microchanneling treatment to work most effectively.

After Your Microchanneling Treatment

Post-treatment care is crucial to help your skin heal properly and maximize the benefits of the procedure. Microchanneling creates tiny channels in the skin, which allow for better product absorption but also make your skin more sensitive immediately following the treatment.

1. Avoid Touching Your Face
- After your treatment, avoid touching your face with unclean hands for the first **24 hours**. Your skin is in the healing phase and prone to infection. If you need to touch your skin, ensure your hands are clean.

2. Skip Makeup for 24-48 Hours
- For at least **24-48 hours** post-treatment, avoid applying makeup, as your skin is more sensitive and can become irritated or clogged. Let your skin breathe and recover naturally.

3. Avoid Sun Exposure and Wear Sunscreen
- Your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays for several days after microchanneling. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least **72 hours** and wear a **broad-spectrum sunscreen** with SPF 30 or higher daily to protect your skin.
- Reapply sunscreen frequently if you are outside, and consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat for added protection.

PRO TIP: Wear Colorescience FLEX SPF tinted sunscreen for coloured protection.

4. Avoid Harsh Skincare Products
- For the first **3-5 days** after your treatment, avoid active ingredients such as retinoids, Vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid. Stick to gentle, hydrating products to avoid irritation.
- Use a **gentle cleanser** and **soothing, hydrating serums** to support skin recovery.

5. Stay Away from Heat and Sweating
- Avoid activities that cause excessive sweating or heat exposure, such as saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and intense exercise, for at least **48 hours** post-treatment. These can irritate the skin and slow the healing process.

6. Do Not Exfoliate
- Your skin is in a recovery phase, so avoid any exfoliating products or treatments (including scrubs, peels, or microdermabrasion) for at least **7 days** after your treatment. Let your skin heal naturally without additional irritation.

7. Stay Hydrated
- Continue drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated from within. Hydrated skin will heal faster and more effectively, helping you get the most out of your Microchanneling treatment.

8. Expect Mild Redness and Sensitivity
- It is normal for your skin to appear red or slightly inflamed immediately after the treatment. This will typically subside within **24-48 hours**. You may also experience mild swelling or a tingling sensation during this time.
- If you experience significant discomfort, redness, or irritation lasting more than a few days, please contact us immediately.

9. Avoid Hair Removal
- For at least **7 days** after Microchanneling, avoid waxing, shaving, or any other form of hair removal in the treated area to prevent irritation or damage to the healing skin.

10. Continue with Recommended Skincare Routine
- After the initial healing period (3-5 days), you may resume your regular skincare routine as recommended by your provider. Incorporating products that promote skin healing and collagen production, such as serums with peptides or growth factors, can enhance your results.

11. Follow-Up Treatments
- Microchanneling works best when done in a series of treatments. Depending on your skin’s needs, we may recommend a series of 3-6 treatments  spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
